The Tulsa Sports Commission announced today that the USY National Championship Series will be coming to Tulsa in 2015. This will be the first time the event of this magnitude has come to Oklahoma.
During a news conference Friday, Tulsa Mayor Dewey Bartlett welcomed the announcement of the event which will be held at the Mohawk Soccer Complex July 20-26, 2015. The sports commission says the event is expected to have an economic impact of over $4 million impact on the Tulsa area.
"In partnership with Oklahoma Soccer Association, Tulsa Sports Commission looks forward to showcasing a great tournament for the elite players who earn their way to the nationals," said Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and Tulsa Sports Commission.
This was a collaborative effort between the Tulsa Sports Commission, OSA, TSC Hurricane and other local clubs. "Several people have been working hard on this for some time. I believe our new facilities in Tulsa, demonstrated capabilities, and the learning lessons from a year ago were all very beneficial making our bid attractive for the 2015 event. Now comes the hard part when we will be called upon, along with other clubs in the area, for support to help make the event a success. This will need to be a team effort. We are very excited to do our part in making sure we put on the best showcase possible for our city," says Jim Tindell, TSC Hurricane Executive Director.
The event will be held at Mohawk Soccer Complex with official team training expected to be hosted at MTsc.
